While in other parts of the country summer is the time to get married, in southern Louisiana the most popular time to get married is fall and spring. That’s when the weather is great for outdoor weddings. If you have your heart set on an venue, especially for a fall or spring wedding, then they may not have your date available. It’s always great to have a list of alternate dates if you’re flexible.
Some venues will only allow you to use their in house or preferred vendors. If you have your heart set on a specific photographer, caterer, or other vendor make sure they’re allowed to work in that venue. Also, some venues require outside vendors to have specific documentation ex. liability insurance. Be sure to take note of these requirements make sure your outside vendor can provide the necessary documentation.
All venues have a maximum capacity. If you’re having a large wedding it’s best to get the number of the guests they can accommodate so you don’t fall in love with a venue that’s doesn’t accommodate a large wedding.
If you can count on anything when it comes to Louisiana weather, it’s that it can change at the drop of a hat. Especially where rain is concerned. Make sure you know what the plan in case of bad weather and that you’re ok with that plan.
While most venues in the area allow you to have your ceremony at their location, some have additional fees while other’s include the ceremony in their fee. There are even some venues that will waive their fee if you have a certain number of guests.
Most venues cover about 3-ish hours in their rental fee for a reception. Ceremonies usually add on 30 minutes to that your time. If you’re wanting a longer reception to party the night away, ask for their fees to add time to your event.
Dreaming of a sparkler exit? Want your guests to throw confetti as you exit your reception? Really want your dream vendor for your wedding? Different venues have different rules as to what they’ll allow. Make sure you’re aware of those restrictions so you aren’t surprised down the road.
Some venues will allow you to add extra touches to the decor to really make it your own. Other would rather you use the options they provide. If you have a particular aesthetic for your wedding and want to include your own decor, be sure you know what’s allowed.
